Simon Peter shayo – Vice President (Sustainability , Geita Gold Mine Limited (GGML) is a Sociologist by training, holding a BA & MA in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and a PGD in Management of Extractive Sector (Strategic Engagement) from the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. Simon is a seasoned Social Performance and Sustainability Specialist with seventeen (17) years of experience in sustainability, mostly across the natural resources sectors. His key areas of expertise are in the Extractive and Energy sectors focusing on sustainable development, social impact and risk assessments, Government and stakeholder engagement etc. Simon has operational and corporate level experience within the mining, energy/gas and power/energy natural resources industries in Tanzania and developing countries. He is also an expert in Communications as well audience research. Simon has extensive understanding and hands-on application of the international guiding principles including IFC Performance Standards, International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM), and several others. Simon is a certified director who serves in several Boards and Trusts including the Tanzania Chamber of Mines Governing Council, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) Board, and the Kilimanjaro Challenge HIV/AIDS Trust Fund. He is the current Chairman of the UN Global Compact Network in Tanzania.
