Japhace Poncian is a researcher and independent consultant. He teaches at Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE). He holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He researches and consults on extractive resource governance, community engagement in decision-making processes and broader governance and development issues. His PhD research broadly features participatory energy resource governance. He has researched around this theme and published several papers in internationally acclaimed journals including Political Geography, Resources Policy, Energy Research and Social Science, Extractive Industries and Society, and Development Studies Research. He has also provided consultancy services to several Civil Society Organisations in Tanzania including Oxfam Tanzania and HakiRasilimali. Similarly, he has established research links with prestigious think tanks in Tanzania, notably with REPOA on its Tanzania as a future petro-state project.
